More on #EUVAT – Hannah’s Bananas – a #VATMOSS analogy | Hannah Kate

Anyone who is still wondering why I keep talking about EU Vat and VAT Moss PLEASE spare a couple of minutes and read this post by Hannah Kate.  It is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!

Now my banana stall’s future looks bleak, and I can’t seem to get any answers from Mr Moss. Apparently, an apple stall from Green Street has been told the new laws don’t apply to them, and the man who sells strawberries on Red Street hasn’t heard anything at all. I think the cherry-seller on Blue Street has just buried her head in the sand and pretended this has nothing to do with her. I’m currently being bombarded by people offering to take people’s fingerprints for me (for a price), and the powers-that-be just won’t accept that banana stalls like mine actually exist.

Is there any future for my little stall?

Who pays?

Another great post by Dan Thompson (@artistsmakers)

20140120_162056 Somebody asked me ‘who funds your work, Dan?’ on a Facebook thread about fair pay for artists and funding for the arts.

So, I think maybe it’s time to come out and tell the truth. Nobody does.

I’m self-employed – I’ve pretty much always been self-employed, from working as a freelance technician for Brighton venues and touring with garage bands after 6th form college, through to setting up Revolutionary Arts, about thirteen years ago. I don’t have a regular wage, or an independent income; I work from project to project. I’m either commissioned to do a piece of work, or raise the funds I need to make my own projects happen. I’m currently working for Bedford Creative Arts, the Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner, The Shell Grotto, a joint project between the Powell-Cotton Museum and the Dreamland Trust, and writing a piece for publication in New Zealand.

100 Years of Breed “Improvement” | Science of Dogs

It is a disgrace what humans have done to certain dog breeds and called “improvement” 😦

To quote from the original post:

No dog breed has ever been improved by the capricious and arbitrary decision that a shorter/longer/flatter/bigger/smaller/curlier “whatever” is better.  Condemning a dog to a lifetime of suffering for the sake of looks is not an improvement; it is torture.

The Reloved Vintage Interiors Blog: Where are all the men?

Sharing a Fantastic post by Mr Reloved Vintage:

I get that, traditionally, the world of business has been male-dominated and it has been a long, hard struggle to get to the stage where women are even considered for top roles at major organisations. I get all that. I’m all for equality. I’m a feminist, I guess.

But I fail to see how the mum squad are helping, with their discrimination of non-parents, making women without kids feel excluded and inadequate and basically telling all men they’re of no interest.
